Win Friends and Influence People

By Barry Horn

I thought to make friends and influence others…you had to be impressively slim, better looking, smarter, wiser, and more experienced than others. Boy, was I wrong!

Let me tell you about my good friend Harley. Harley is a little shorter than average, a little stocky, young, and less experienced than most others. I thought of myself as a little smarter and a little wiser, and certainly more experienced than Harley. But Harley has qualities we all should strive to acquire.

Harley is always happy to see you. He makes you feel you are the most important person he has ever met. Harley is never critical. He never makes you feel someone else could have done a better job! Harley doesn’t care about your social status or the way you are dressed. He is friendly to everyone. Harley is not judgmental, and it is always a pleasure to see him.

If you are feeling a little down or a little depressed, Harley will have you feeling better in no time. This young man has made me his friend and has influenced me for the better by just setting a good example.

In this new year, let us all strive to be more like my good friend Harley. Be friendly to everyone you meet. Don’t be critical of others, don’t be too quick to judge, and make each person you meet feel special, because we all are special in God’s eyes.

In addition, in this new year, let us make friends and influence others by setting a good example.

Meet my good friend Harley! Harley is on the right.
